• you must be at least 18 years old to hire one of our boats. Age verification may be requested
• lifejackets (supplied) must be worn by hirees at all times
• max. 5 persons per boat
• no alcohol allowed on boats
• fuel, tuition, safety gear are all inclusive in hire charge
• hirees to keep their exploration within harbour mouth

Navigational Safety in Fowey Harbour

Fowey Harbour is one of the United Kingdom’s busiest ports, with over a million tons of shipping being handled per annum. Despite this commercial activity the harbour and its delightful estuaries provide excellent opportunity for leisure craft of all description.

The main deep-water channels at Fowey are in constant use. They are used by large, deep draughted ships that cannot deviate from their course. Leisure boaters are advised to keep well clear of the main channel whenever possible and use the recommended small craft routes at either side. When main channel has to be crossed this should be done whenever possible at right angles. Avoid crossing the bows of our oncoming traffic as large ships in particular have restricted visibility for quite a distance ahead. Also please remember that the river is tidal and that in some places the water can leave pretty fast. So please be alert out there, be aware of other users and keep a good look out astern!
